Our client had recently acquired this Northern Indian Tulwar sword, but was a little disappointed in its current finish and quality. The scabbard was tattered and falling apart. The blade was covered in pitting, scratches and had staining. The blade edge had been incorrectly sharpened, differently to the original convex edge. We started our work by stripping the scabbard and reconditioning it to provide a solid core, which we sealed to prevent moisture attacking the finished blade. We then covered the scabbard with genuine antique velvet in the requested blue colour and finished the scabbard with a custom made steel chape and wire braid plated in 24k gold. The blade was polished to remove most of the pitting, scratches and we corrected the blade edge to match that of the false edge. The blade has a duel steel scarf weld construction and the ricasso section displaying fine wootz steel pattern. A light clean and polish to the hilt and our work on this sword was complete.
