In a press release issued on December 28, B. Rakesh, the KFPA Secretary, explained that the industry spent a massive Rs 1,000 crore on the production of 199 new films and five re-releases. Unfortunately, the returns were far from encouraging, with total revenues at just Rs 350 crore, leaving the industry reeling from losses of up to Rs 700 crore.
