In this tutorial I will show you how to appear completely offline on Steam. Thankfully, Steam has recently added an option to appear offline but still chat with your friends.

Now, let's go through the steps in order to appear offline:

Step 1: Launch the Steam application. You will land in Steam Library.

Step 2: Click Friends in the navigation bar, in the top left corner and click View Friend list.

Step 3: Click on the dropdown icon next to you Steam username.

Step 4: At this point we are choosing between two types of statuses, one is Invisible, the other is Offline.
If you are going to choose Invisible, you will appear offline to all of your friends on your Friend List, however you may still choose to chat and message your friends.
On the other hand, if you choose offline you will appear offline and will be disconnected from Friends & Chat interface so you can no longer talk with your friends.
