Big things are happening in spaceflight this week. SpaceX pushed through a new round of checks on Starship Flight 10, but the results raised questions about whether the vehicle is fully ready to go. Back at Starbase, Ship 37 returned to the pad and was placed on the stand for the second time in two weeks, following a recent engine swap. Engineers aimed to push forward in testing, but a static fire did not occur. On August 12th, crews cleared scaffolding and support gear, then ran smaller checks like flap movements and detonation suppression. After that, venting showed fueling operations starting. Liquid oxygen entered the tank and a frost line appeared, but before engine work could begin, the vehicle was drained. This detanking step indicates a small problem arose, and the test ended at the cryogenic stage without moving into a spin prime sequence.
A spin prime is a step where propellant is pushed through the engines without lighting them. This lets engineers confirm fuel lines are clear, detect leaks, and check that the turbopumps spin correctly before moving on to a hot fire. It’s one of the last safety steps before ignition tests. SpaceX still has more time in the current test window, so another run should happen soon. These checks are short once the vehicle is ready, meaning progress can move quickly. If the outcome is good, Ship 37 will be rolled back into Mega Bay 2 for inspection and final prep. Afterward, Booster 16 can be brought to the pad. With this pace, there’s still a realistic chance for a launch before August ends.
