We must break the cycle of violence in order to begin meaningful discussions about any kind of political settlement. My administration will continue to work with the parties involved reminding folks that violence will not lead to peace, obviously. Violence will make it so difficult for there to be any political settlement.

STORYLINE:

President Bush decried the new intensity of Mideast violence Friday, after an Islamic suicide bomber attacked a crowded shopping mall in Israel.

At least six died and more than 70 were wounded when 20-year-old, Mahmoud Ahmed Marmash, blew himself up in the seaside city of Netanya.

Bush called on Middle East leaders to denounce the violence during an Oval Office ceremony for the crew of the U.S. spy plane that went down in China last month.

He also reiterated his administration's commitment to promoting peace.
