Bhavayami Raghuramam -- is a Soul-stirring Raagamalika epitomizing the entire story of the epic Ramayanam. This beautiful song, in chaste Sanskrit, was originally composed by Maharaja Swathi Thirunaal as a krithi in the (single) raagam - Saaveri & set to Roopaka Thaalam.

After more than 100 years, it was recently carved out as a Ragamalika, with built-in cittasvarams by the doyen of Carnatic music - Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer.

This is the version that is currently in vogue.

The pallavi and the anupallavi are set in Raagam Saaveri (which was the original ragam employed by Swathi Thirunaal), and there are six Charanam segments, sung in Ragams - Nattakurinji, Dhanyasi, Mohanam, Mukhari, Poorvikalyani and Madhyamavathy.

Each Charanam describes one Kandam, corresponding to Valmiki's version of Ramayanam. These are respectively -the Bala Kandam , Ayodhya Kandam, Aranya Kandam, Kiskindha Kandam, Sundara Kandam, and Yuddha Kandam.

Maharaja Swathi Thirunaal packed the material of 24000 Shlokams in Valmiki Ramayanam in just six Charanam lines. Hence, as one can see, many of the phrases employed in the Charanam segment are very long and winding, since each phrase accommodates an episode in the epic of Ramayanam in a very condensed form.
