How to Look at Art– Top Tips from an Art Historian!

Описание к видео How to Look at Art– Top Tips from an Art Historian!

To really get to know a work of art, you have to look at it. But just staring at something doesn’t necessarily bring profound revelations— you need to know how to look and what to look for. In this video, you’ll get my top tips for looking at art: both online and in person.

My tips:
1. Get the best quality image possible
2. Look at the work of art for a minute, without judgement
3. Look for details
4. Get some information on the work of art, from labels, guides or the internet
5. Take photos, but not too many
6. You don’t have to like the art
7. Let the art pull questions out of you, examine your reactions

I wrote a blog a while ago with more technical information, going over art historical visual analysis. If you’d like to take your looking up another level, check it out:
