We take a POV ride on 7x (out of 12) Kone escalators at the Primark In Manchester City Centre. This store has a main set (here) with 8 escalators and a second side set with another 4. All of them are the TravelMaster 110 type and installed in 2012.

This store is incredibly busy, so this video was taken close to closing time. 2 of the 12 weren’t working (1 in each set). The others were running well but compared with older Kone escalators (the RTV and Eco3000 types), the TravelMaster is a bit of a downgrade in quality and is definitely an ugly design. That said, when the other 3 main manufacturers made their commercial escalator offerings considerably cheaper and worse over the period, I can see why they followed. Since around 2010 in the industry, the emphasis has been on making things cheaper, use less energy and materials - not being good quality…
