I remove an axle nut and then put some Orange Thread Locker on the nut. I torque it to specifications and then stake it with a cold chisel. Whenever dealing with automotive repairs make sure to use proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). I have on nitrile gloves to prevent contact with chemicals and hearing protection.

The axle nut needs to be torqued to the proper specifications and then staked. Otherwise the power of the engine can loosen the nut and spines of the axle can slide out of the hub causing catastrophic damage and death.
Make sure your vehicle is properly supported, otherwise it can fall and crush you.

I use an awe in the rotor vents to keep the hub from spinning while loosening and tightening.

This is a 2006 Subaru Legacy. Torque specification is 164 ft/lb for front and 177 ft/lbs for rear. Your exact specifications may be different, so consult a manual for proper specifications.
