Tuna Fish Puttu - Tamil with English Subtitles

This recipe is good with any kind of rice especially sambar and rasam rice.

Serve: 4-5 people

Ingredients:
Tuna fish steak 850 gm (you may use any kind of fish fillet)
Onions 2 chopped
Green chili 1 chopped (adjust to your taste)
Garlic cloves 5 peeled & chopped
Ginger thumb size peeled & chopped
Salt to taste
Curry leaves 1 stem chopped
Coriander (cilantro) leaves 1 tbsp chopped
Black pepper (optional)
Turmeric powder 1 tsp

Temper the following ingredients:
Oil 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida 1 pea size (if you are using powder 1 pinch)

Method for steaming tuna steak:
In a large pan put the tuna steak, a little water, 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder and salt to taste. Bring to a boil over medium heat. When it boils reduce the heat to low, cover it and steam for 5 minutes. Put the steamed tuna in a large mixing bowl and discard the excess water.

Method for making Puttu:
Add all the chopped ingredients to the bowl with the fish and hand mix them all well. Make sure to remove all the lumps.

Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a large pan over high heat. Once the oil is hot add mustard seeds. Wait till it splits and add the rest of the tempering ingredients except coriander leaves one by one. Reduce the heat to medium, and add the fish mixture and give it a good mix. Stir it often. No need to cover it. Cook it for about 12 minutes or till it turns golden brown. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and remove it from the heat.
