During World War II in Italy the Focolare Movement was born in the harsh reality of war. The movement's founder Chiara Lubich and a group of young women around her decide to stay in Trent to help people who had to be left behind, despite the city's evacuation due to the bombings. In their shelter they read the prayer of Jesus in John 17 and decide to dedicate their lives to unity. Years after, an encounter with Jesus through the Focolare Movement changes Patrick Markey's life completely. The then football player understands that unity is a team sport, just as football is, and that from now on his football field is the one of the world, and he should work for unity, so that all may be one.

The John 17 Movement is a NGO focused on Jesus’ prayer in John 17: “make them one as we are one that the world will know you sent me”.

The John 17 Movement is a relational reconciliation initiative with the mission to inspire, develop and display love and unity among all professed Christians.

We see ourselves as “servant catalyst” called to spark the intentional pursuit of narrowing the divides within the body of Christ. It’s our conviction that relational reconciliation is the first step.

Our example is Jesus who washed His disciples feet and called them friends. He told them they would be blessed not just knowing the example but practicing it.

At the table of the Last Supper Jesus was clear His new commandment was to Love each other as He loved them.

It is our conviction that the table of friendship starting at the feet not the head, is our staring point.
