A rapidly intensifying low-pressure system is bringing hazardous weather across the U.S., creating snow, ice, and a severe storm risk from the Deep South to the Upper Midwest.
In the Northern U.S. and the Plains, the system is producing snow, freezing rain, and dangerous travel conditions. Farther south, increasing moisture is fueling a severe storm threat across parts of Alabama and Florida, with the primary hazards being isolated tornadoes, damaging winds, and strong thunderstorms tonight into early Tuesday morning.
Across the Deep South and eastern Texas, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the day. Just north of this region, a corridor of heavy rain to freezing rain may develop from eastern Oklahoma through the Ohio Valley and into Pennsylvania, creating potential icing hazards.
Where the greatest potential for snow, ice and sleet is, a Winter Weather Advisory remains, extending from Oklahoma through New York!
In the Midwest and Upper Midwest, including states such as Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin, heavy snowfall is likely from this morning into the afternoon. The Great Lakes region is also seeing accumulating snow. While snowfall in this area is typical for the season, the biggest concerns include ice buildup, hazardous travel, and periods of lake-effect snow.
