Beneath calm Scottish waters, a routine naval exercise and a small fishing boat crossed paths, and four men never came home.

In November 1990, the fishing trawler Antares was working the deep trench of the Firth of Clyde, towing its nets through dark midwater. At the same time, a Royal Navy submarine was conducting one of the most demanding training exercises in the fleet.

They never saw each other.

This is the story of sonar contacts, training under pressure, missed warnings, and the deadly moment when a submarine passed just meters from a fishing crew fighting to stay afloat.
