So let’s start with what’s new. Xbox is restructuring Game Pass into three clear tiers. The new names are Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. This move replaces the older Core and Standard subscriptions, while Ultimate continues but gets even more upgrades. The goal here is to give players more choice depending on how they play.
Let’s look at Essential first. This is the entry level plan, and it costs nine ninety nine a month in the United States. With Essential, you’ll get access to a catalog of around fifty games across both console and PC. You can play online multiplayer, stream games through the cloud, and enjoy in game perks for titles like League of Legends, Call of Duty Warzone, and Overwatch 2. On top of that, you can earn up to twenty five thousand Xbox Rewards points per year just by playing. So if you’re looking for the basics with some nice extras, Essential is the foundation plan.
Next up is Premium, which costs fourteen ninety nine a month. Premium steps things up by offering a much larger catalog, with over two hundred games across console, PC, and the cloud. You also get access to new Xbox published titles within their first year of release. Cloud gaming here goes further, letting you stream not only Game Pass games but also select titles you already own. Premium also includes the in game perks and a bigger rewards allowance of up to fifty thousand points per year. This is a solid middle ground plan if you want more variety and some early access perks, without going all in on the most expensive tier.
And finally, we have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the top tier at twenty nine ninety nine a month. Ultimate is where Microsoft really packed in the features. You’ll have access to more than four hundred games across every platform, including over seventy five day one releases each year. Starting November eighteenth, Fortnite Crew is bundled directly into Ultimate at no extra cost. On top of that, Ubisoft Plus Classics is included, giving you even more games to play. Cloud streaming is upgraded too, offering up to fourteen forty p resolution and faster queue times. Ultimate also comes with all the same in game benefits and the biggest reward cap of one hundred thousand points annually. It’s very much the all in package for serious players who want the largest library, the newest releases, and premium extras.
So, what does all this mean for existing subscribers? If you were on Game Pass Core, you’ll be automatically moved to Essential. If you were on Standard, you’ll move to Premium. And if you’re already on Ultimate, nothing changes except you’ll start receiving the new perks. This transition is happening globally, but the exact pricing will vary by country depending on local markets and currency.
There are a few other details worth noting. Game availability can differ by region and platform, so not every game you see in the catalog may be available where you live. Day one releases mean certain new games will appear on Game Pass the same day they launch, and Ultimate members will get the biggest share of those. Cloud gaming continues to be a focus, especially for Ultimate subscribers, with better performance and smoother streaming. And the Xbox Rewards program is getting more integrated, meaning you can earn points by playing games that can later be redeemed for store credit or discounts.
