ONE Elderberry GIANT – no secret, just grow the Bob Gordon Elderberry

The Bob Gordon Elderberry grows VERY vigorous. Heavy, thick plant 10+ feet tall and well over 20 feet round in only 3 years. Our self-made soil and the location are factors but Elderberries are an easy-to-grow fruiting plant. Planting elderberries, pruning them and harvesting is easy. And NO pests or disease.

We compare the Johns Elderberry to the Bob Gordon. Both are cultivars of the American Elderberry (Sambucus canadensis). We also grow the European species (Sambucus nigra), and North American natives, the Blue Elderberry (Sambucus mexicana) and Red (Sambucus racemosa).

Elder berry benefits are mixed. A LOT of benefits are touted online but the evidence is thin. For example, travelers using elderberry syrup from 10 days before travel until 4–5 days after arriving overseas on average experienced a 2-day shorter duration of the cold and also noticed a reduction in cold symptoms.
