UK Allotment in May | What’s Growing, What’s Struggling & Garden Update

Hi Friends 👋

Welcome back to the channel—it’s time for our May allotment tour! 🌱

As always, we’re starting just outside the shed, and first stop is the greenhouse 🌿. Honestly, it’s a bit of a mess in there—everything’s ready to go out and I’m definitely behind on planting. The seedlings are looking a bit leggy and dry, but they’re hanging on. There’s all sorts: beetroot, leeks, tomatoes 🍅, sunflowers 🌻, basil, lettuce 🥬, snapdragons, parsley, cosmos, coriander...

Over in the forest border, the catmint’s blooming and, for once, hasn’t been flattened by the cats 🐈. The plum tree’s dropped all its fruit already—maybe the weather, maybe the soil 🤷‍♀️. The blackcurrants and strawberries 🍓 aren’t looking great either, and the rhubarb didn’t come back very strongly. I think I’ll have a proper rethink of that fruit bed in the autumn 🍂.

The cherry tree’s doing a little better 🍒, and in the pig pen is ready for soil and tomatoes. Spot the rogue potato 🥔 growing in the compost bin!

The cut flower & edible beds are absolutely full of life! Snapdragons, poppies 🌸, parsley everywhere. There are lots of carrots 🥕 and celery with a saved space for some tomatoes. The sweet peas are coming along nicely and the wildflowers are really starting to fill out. Garlic 🧄 is nearly ready to lift. I did spot aphids on the globe artichoke though—first pests of the season 🐛! The roses 🌹 are just starting to bloom and looking fantastic!
