দুই কোটিরও বেশি মানুষের শহর ঢাকা—যানজটের দুঃস্বপ্নে জর্জরিত এই মহানগরী যেন প্রতিদিনই সময়ের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করে। ডিএমপির তথ্য বলছে, ২০০৬ সালে ঢাকার সড়কে যানবাহনের গতি ছিল ঘণ্টায় ২১ কিলোমিটার। অথচ ২০২৪ সালে তা নেমে আসে মাত্র ৫ কিলোমিটারে। ফলে বিশ্বের ধীরগতির শহরগুলোর তালিকায় নাম উঠে আসে ঢাকার।বিগত বছরগুলোতে উড়ালসড়ক, এক্সপ্রেসওয়ে—বিলিয়ন ডলারের মেগা প্রকল্প চালু হলেও, যানজটের জাল ছিঁড়তে পারেনি কেউ। কিন্তু এবার ব্যতিক্রম ঘটেছে এক ভিন্ন উদ্যোগে। ঢাকা মহানগর পুলিশের ট্রাফিক বিভাগের ‘জিরো কস্ট’ প্রজেক্ট—যেখানে বড় কোনো অবকাঠামো নয়, বরং বুদ্ধিদীপ্ত পরিকল্পনায় বদলে দেওয়া হয়েছে শহরের ট্রাফিকের ধরণ।

Dhaka, a city of more than 20 million people—this metropolis, plagued by the nightmare of traffic jams, seems to be fighting against time every day. According to DMP data, in 2006, the speed of vehicles on Dhaka's roads was 21 kilometers per hour. However, in 2024, it dropped to just 5 kilometers. As a result, Dhaka's name has appeared in the list of the slowest cities in the world. In the past years, although mega projects worth billions of dollars such as flyovers and expressways have been launched, no one has been able to break the web of traffic jams. But this time, an exception has been made with a different initiative. The 'Zero Cost' project of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's traffic department—where the city's traffic pattern has been changed not with any major infrastructure, but with intelligent planning.
