Breville 870XL Pump / Safety Valve Replacement, Part 2

This video shows how to replace just the safety valve on the Breville Barista Express espresso machine.

Turns out I missed seeing a tiny silicone rubber gasket on the original safety valve and that part wasn't included on the replacement valve I purchased. No instructions provided with the parts, luckily the problem was easy enough to locate and correct.

I had left the back of the machine off for just this sort of issue. This is a good way to look inside the machine to find sources of water leaks, etc. Be careful as there are exposed electrical connections inside when the machine is plugged in, even if it's off. You can look inside using a small flashlight and can see where leaks are coming from and often you can see where water is flowing in the plastic tubing as well as pinpoint sounds from the 2 solenoid valves.

Remove the 2 upper pump bracket screws along with the two hose connections on the valve and unplug a some of the wires in front of the pump. Then tip the pump out enough to allow the valve to be unscrewed. You'll need to rock the pump side to side for the hose barb on the valve to clear the solenoids. Move the washer to the new valve and screw it back in place. Clock the valve outlet to 45* and put everything back in place.

I checked for leaks again, found none and then buttoned up the machine. Output pressure is in the normal range and steady. No strange sounds like I was getting before as the pressure gauge would oscillate up and down.
