The ISGF’s 8th webinar in the bi-weekly webinar series on “The Short List of Climate Actions That Will Work” was organized on the topic "Wasted Money and Stranded Assets: Subsidies and Financing for Fossil Fuels"

The webinar, presented by Michael Barnard, founder of "The Future is Electric.", focused on the global push for a low-carbon future and the conflicting support for fossil fuels. Despite efforts to reduce carbon emissions, governments and private entities continue to heavily subsidize fossil fuel activities, reinforced by decades of favorable laws and tax policies. The discussion also pointed out how commercial lenders and institutional investors are ignoring the risks posed by the eventual decline of fossil fuels. While removing these subsidies and stopping financing outdated energy technologies is necessary, it remains a significant challenge.
