Zin in een leuke fietstocht?...
We beginnen onze fietstocht op de voetgangers en fietsbrug in Historisch Delfshaven (waar het carillon (Pelgrimvaderskerk) juist een deuntje speelt) en vandaar fietsen we door langs de Delfshavense Schie richting Overschie en rijden dan door het oude gedeelte van Overschie (deelgemeente van Rotterdam) verder langs het kanaal richting De Zweth en Zweth ...(Zweth vormt samen met De Zweth een Nederlandse buurtschap aan weerszijden van de Berkelsche Zweth, daar waar deze uitmondt in de Delftse Schie tussen Delft en Rotterdam. De buurtschap ligt op de grens van de gemeente Midden-Delfland en de Rotterdamse wijk Overschie).
Hier bij Zweth slaan we af en fietsen over de kanaal-fietsbrug en gaan dan via het het plaatsje Kandelaar (gemeente Overschie) door de polder naar Kethel (gemeente Schiedam) en hier eindigen we onze fietsrit dan in het oude Kethel.

*DELFSHAVEN is een bestuurscommissiegebied van de gemeente Rotterdam. Delfshaven heeft een oppervlakte van 5,80 km² en telde in 2019 76.215 inwoners. Oorspronkelijk was Delfshaven een onderdeel van Delft, maar in 1795 werd het een zelfstandige gemeente, en in 1886 door Rotterdam geannexeerd.
Delfshaven ontstond in 1389, toen de Delfshavense Schie werd gegraven om de stad Delft een verbinding met de Maas te geven. Sindsdien konden de schepen vanuit Delft via de Delftse en Delfshavense Schie de Nieuwe Maas bereiken. Rondom de sluis ontstond het havenstadje 'Delfshaven'. Het had de status van een 'kolonie van Delft'. Een terugslag in de groei vond plaats toen aan het eind van de Hoekse en Kabeljauwse twisten (rond 1490) de Hoeken enorme verwoestingen aanrichtten. In het begin van de zestiende eeuw telde Delfshaven iets meer dan 100 huizen en 400 inwoners.

Fancy a nice bike ride?...
