0番台と500番台でエンジンが異なり、0番台はスイスのズルツァー社との技術提携により製造された三菱神戸ズルツァー8LDA25A形がエンジンが搭載されており、漁船のエンジンのような音が特徴的でした。

From 1957 to 1983, the DF50 electric diesel locomotive was active all over Japan except for Hokkaido.
The 0 series and the 500 series have different engines, and the 0 series is equipped with a Mitsubishi Kobe Sulzer 8LDA25A type engine manufactured through a technical partnership with Sulzer of Switzerland, and it has a distinctive sound like a fishing boat engine.
