Hey everyone! In honor of everyone's favorite mouse's birthday, this Hat of The Month is based off of none other then, Mickey Mouse! This year marks Mickey's 85th birthday. He was first shown November 18th, 1928. I also show how you can change things up and make a Minnie hat as well. I hope you guys enjoy! (sorry for my horrible photography)

Items Used:
Clover Bamboo 16" circular and dpn size 8 (5mm)
Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Black
Craft Smart Value Yarn in Bright Red

Size:
Adult 22"

Gauge:
16sts - 25 rows = 4"


Instructions:
With red yarn, cast on 90 sts
Work a 2x1 rib for 8 Rows.
Rib: *K2, P1; rep around.

Increase 10 sts evenly through next row.
Inc Row: *K9, YO; rep from * around - 100 sts

Now we have to close our yarn overs, so we don't end up with holes in our hat.
*K9, knit through back look of YO; rep from * around.

To work the body of our hat all we do is knit, every row to form stockinette st.
With red yarn work 4" from cast on edge.

Switch to your black yarn, continuing in stockinette st, work until your piece measures 7" from cast on edge.

On your last row, space four st markers every 20 sts. 5 st markers total, 1 being your row marker.

Decreases:
Row 1: *SSK, knit to 2 sts before marker, K2tog, sl marker; rep from * around.
Row 2: Knit
Repeat Rows 1 & 2 until 10 sts remain.
Switching to double pointed needles when needed.

Cut yarn, weave in ends and pull tight to close hat.

Ears:
With black yarn, cast on 10 sts
Row 1 and all wrong sides: Purl
Row 2: K1, Kf&b, K6, Kf&b, K1 - 12 sts
Row 4: K1, Kf&b, K8, Kf&b, K1 - 14 sts
Row 6: K1, Kf&b, K10, Kf&b, K1 - 16 sts
Row 8: K1, K2tog, K8, K2tog, K1 - 14 sts
Row 10: K1, K2tog, K6, K2tog, K1 - 12 sts
Row 12: K1, K2tog, K4, K2tog, K1 - 10 sts
Row 14: *K2tog; rep from * across - 5 sts
Row 16: *Kf&b; rep from * across - 10 sts
Repeat Rows 1 through 12, then bind off.

Make 2 ears.

Fold ears over and sew side seams, attach to hat. Then use your yellow or white buttons to embellish you Mickey or Minnie hat and enjoy!
