The Greater Bengaluru Election has emerged as a major political challenge for Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, making it a true acid test of leadership and organisational strength. With elections scheduled for five municipal corporations covering 369 wards, the stakes are extremely high for the ruling Congress. As the Bengaluru in-charge minister, DK Shivakumar faces the responsibility of delivering results in a politically tough environment. In the last electoral outings, Congress managed to win only 11 out of 28 assembly segments, while BJP dominated the remaining seats and all four Lok Sabha constituencies in the city.

Despite the lack of a strong pro-incumbency wave, the Congress high command has reportedly given DK Shivakumar a clear mandate — win at least three out of five corporations. With the Bengaluru Development portfolio also under DK’s control, expectations have soared.
