Over the past few years, we've made it a family tradition to grow our own pumpkin patch to celebrate the fall season and Halloween. Each year has been (mostly) a success and I was thoroughly convinced that pumpkins were the easiest plant to grow.....until now. In some of my prior videos, you can see how well the pumpkin plants this year were doing, and I even went as far as fencing them off to ensure the chickens wouldn't ravage through them like last year, but unfortunately it didn't stop squash bugs.

Now, this disaster with the pumpkins means we won't really get to enjoy our own little patch this year so we'll have to make a trip off site to get pumpkins that our kids will be able to carve. What a bummer!

My suspicion is that I must've watered them too much after they begin to fruit, meaning the pumpkins were sitting on moist ground for too long. I also layered wood chips early on thinking it would be beneficial in keeping weeds at bay but instead I think it retained the high moisture content in the ground which is most likely the cause for the poor harvest. Lesson learned, hopefully!
