In this episode of my Assignment Breakdown series, I’m taking you behind the scenes of one of the most meaningful projects of my career — documenting illegal logging and conservation efforts in Papua New Guinea and Borneo. Shot back in 2013 with my Nikon D800, this assignment challenged me to not only capture powerful images but also report stories and shoot video interviews in remote, rugged locations.

I’ll share my real-world experiences working for NGOs, covering important environmental photography stories, and the hustle it took to succeed as a professional photographer traveling solo across Southeast Asia. From navigating logistics on my own to photographing under pressure, I reflect on both the highs and bittersweet moments from this whirlwind assignment.
