Layout #2, Video #20, Unboxing the Kato CB&Q Silver Streak Zephyr set

This is the 60th video of our growth in the model railroading hobby and the twentieth video for our N scale layout (layout #2). While we were at our favorite hobby shop (Dibble's in San Antonio), they had a collection of new Athearn N Scale UP Challengers (4-6-6-4) steam locomotives. While looking at them, I noticed they had a Kato bookcase set of the CB&Q Silver Streak Zephyr.

I like the Zephyr and wanted one, but this was an analog (DC only) set instead of the DCC with sound we had been staying with. After careful consideration and consultation with Chris about his rule of only getting the DCC trains, I decided to buy this, with a DCC sound card to install later. This video shows us unboxing it and making a test run using the DC on our DCC track.

The Zephyr is a beautiful train and the model is well made and just a beautiful. Being my present to myself for the holiday, I hope you all enjoy it. I will get the DCC installed in January (at the hobby shop when their Christmas rush dies down) and we will revisit it then.
