Old skate spots.The first waterslide in the St. Louis area was Wet Willy's. Located in Fenton, it opened in the summer of 1978. Built on a 40-foot hill and made entirely out of concrete, Wet Willy's had three winding, twisting 500-foot slides that resemble bobsled runs. They were slow, medium and I'm going to die, better known as the death slide. The concrete surface was so ruff that there were reports of kids using duct tape on the bottom of their feet to minimise the wounds. The only thing separating riders from a hard concrete surface were thin rubber mats, it is alleged that people would fly off the side of the slide, to combat this regulations were put in place to only allow patrons to slide down on their stomach. The splash pool at the end of the runs was incredibly short and shallow adding more complications and danger to the place.

Within the first month that Wet Willy's was open, 10 riders were sent to the hospital, with one of the riders suffering a broken vertebrae.The slide was eventually shut down in the late 90’s, there were rumours that people had died on the slide, whether this was true or not, the slide was incredibly dangerous, yet fun as it gets.

After its closure, the abandoned slide was used as a skate spot for skateboarders and rollerbladers. The terrain and sheer speed generated gave it a reputation as a sketchy skate spot, yet added to the overall appeal. During 2009 however the slide was demolished, with the 40-foot hill still being vacant to this day.
