Spin Rips Front End and Undertray Off of a Shelby GT500… NASA Great Lakes – PittRace July 2024

This took place during the TREC race on Friday. In summary, we missed the apex by 2 tire widths which caused us to miss the exit curb by 1 tire width. Damage Report:

► Bumper cover destroyed (although we were able to re-attach it in a manner that was safe to allow us to race on Saturday and Sunday)
► Archetype Racing splitter torn off. Amazingly not damaged.
► OEM splitter lip destroyed.
► Wickers destroyed
► Undertray destroyed
► Wheel well liners destroyed
► Brake ducts destroyed
► Radiator cooling box destroyed

After the spin, I ran another lap to see if there was any suspension damage. Car drove straight without any vibrations. At that point, I was not aware that much of the front end had been ripped off the car. Then I came around turn 16 and saw the expelled pieces laying in the infield. Not a sight a racer ever wants to see.

Amazingly, the Archetype Racing Gladiator splitter is so dang sturdy that it got ripped off and then run over by the car but had no damage. Couple of scuffs on the underside, that’s it.
