Then we differentiates between the primary types of UI stress, urgency, overflow, and mixed incontinence—based on symptoms and examination findings, noting that an elevated PVR is the hallmark of overflow incontinence. Management varies significantly by type, ranging from behavioral and lifestyle modifications and pharmacotherapy for urgency UI to surgical placement of a midurethral sling for stress UI. Ultimately, that most UI diagnoses can be established through this standard evaluation, reserving advanced urodynamic testing for complex or refractory cases.
