In Spring 2016, Mark Petersen, a fellow Typospherian, drove 250 miles or so from his home in Christiansburg to Northern Virginia, where his parents live, as do I. He and I agreed to meet that Saturday afternoon at a local watering hole for a typewriter exchange. This was significant to me in that it was the first time my partner had agreed to accompany me to a typewriter-themed activity (as luring him with beer turned out to be a successful strategy). After engaging in a bit of show-and-tell and enjoying several civilians who dropped by to satisfy their curiosity, and once a suitable quantity of beer was consumed, Mark agreed to participate in a demonstration of a "secret handshake" that we would now like to propose for adoption by our community.
