In 1761, a French slave ship wrecked on a remote island in the Indian Ocean. The crew escaped. The enslaved people were left behind… for 15 years.

This is the haunting true story of Tromelin Island—a forgotten chapter in the history of slavery, survival, and human resilience.

After the ship L’Utile ran aground, around 60 enslaved Malagasy people were abandoned by the French crew, who promised to return with help. They never did.

What followed was nothing short of miraculous: on a tiny, barren island with no trees, no natural freshwater, and no supplies, they survived!

In 1776, just seven women and a baby remained alive when they were finally rescued.

Centuries later, archaeologists uncovered their story—finding cooking tools, housing structures, and even bowls repaired dozens of times.
