Trains at Derby - 21/04/2022

Filmed on 21/04/2022. It is onto the tracks we go for a day in the East Midlands once again but with a twist as you will see in the future. Starting the day with a 90 minutes trainspotting session at Derby (Season 9 Episode 8)

Compared to the visit we did in 2021 where East Midlands Railway was running their reduced timetable, this year it is all change where East Midlands Railway are almost running a full timetabled service. There are now very few 222 Meridians which are running their previous Stagecoach livery and are now part repainted as East Midlands Railway. Only 222104 is the Purple Meridian in service at the moment. Some strange 7 carriage Meridian diagrams are seen running semi fast between Derby and Leicester.

As East Midlands Railway introduces their class 170 Turbostar units, they are withdrawing their class 156's which will all be transferring across to Northern. Also, new extended services are running between Crewe and Newark Castle via Derby. Even though not filmed, East Midlands Railway are for the time being running the Derby to Matlock shuttle services in the meantime but apparently, these services could be extended through to Nottingham.

Derby is also home to Bombardier where brand new trains are being built, tested and transferred to its new home for Souteastern, Greater Anglia and now C2C are investing into these new Bombardier units.
