Definition -
Rock blasting is the controlled use of explosives or other methods to break rock for excavation and removal. It's a common practice in mining, quarrying, and civil engineering projects like dam, tunnel, or road construction. The process typically involves drilling holes, placing explosives, detonating them, and then clearing away the broken rock.

Safety precautions and guidelines for “Explosive VEN”
• Vehicle Maintenance
• Fire Extinguishers: Always carry two fire extinguishers
• Emergency Procedures: In case of a breakdown, immediately inform the
Controller of Explosives and the local police.
• Documentation: Carry necessary documents including the Indent (Form RE-11),
Pass (Form RE-12), copy of the explosives van's license, Bill/invoice.
• Security: Two armed guards must accompany the explosives van during
transportation and in sensitive areas, police armed guards should be provided.
• Personnel: Employ only trained drivers and cleaners whose backgrounds have
been verified by the police.
• Distance: Maintain a 300-meter distance between two vans carrying explosives.
• Loading/Unloading: Load/unload explosives only when the vehicle's engine is off,
wheels are chocked, and the handbrake is applied.
• Route Selection: Avoid routes passing through densely populated areas and
municipal limits.
• Accident Reporting: Always report any accidents to the Controller of Explosives,
District Magistrate, and the police.
• Avoidance: Do not stop the van unnecessarily or for extended periods during
transportation.
• No Flammables: Do not transport flammable substances with explosives.
• No Detonators: Do not transport detonators with other types of explosives.
• No Passengers: Do not carry passengers while transporting explosives.
• Personnel Restrictions: Do not employ individuals under 18, intoxicated
individuals, or those with mental or physical disabilities.
• Night Transport Restrictions: Do not transport explosives at night in sensitive
areas designated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
• Static Electricity: Ensure the vehicle is equipped with a grounding strap to release static electricity.
• No Fire Making Materials: Do not carry matches, lighters, or other fire-making
materials in the vehicle unless in a fireproof container.
• Firewatch: If a fire occurs, stop all other traffic at least 300 meters from the
vehicle and warn nearby individuals of the danger.
• Safe Inspection Location: Station the explosives van in a non-congested area for
inspection, ensuring public safety.
