Paint ADVANCED monochromatic PORTRAITS! | Full Airbrush Painting Tutorial (part 1)

Painting portraits in monochrome is a great exercise in value study. Since there are no colors used besides black, you get to focus all of your attention on values and how they mold and sculpt the structures of the face. The highlight will be achieved by removing the pigments and paint from the surface. This week will be starting a male portrait with a fair amount of skin texture. We will start with the left eye and work our way down the left side of the portrait to render the textures and sculpt the forms. I will show you every single technique that I used to paint this one. This painting is a 24x18" canvas stretched over a wooden panel, prepared smooth with liquitex super heavy gesso. Part 2 will be next week. Thanks for watching!
