Vintage Voices from 1899
Chronicle of the Times Episode 115 | 1899
In today’s episode of Vintage Voices it is 1899.
The horror of the ripper years is a fading memory and Victorians look onward and upwards!
We have a cemetery scandal from, where else, Scotland! Land of Burke and Hare!
The woman who is desperate to be married but cannot afford the marriage license has a plan to kill her sister in the insane asylum.
And a man is attacked by ferrets! We could not make this up!
We have a wonderful sounding recipe of potato and bacon rolls as well as a strawberry whip!
A wide range of letters – we particularly like the quite stern letter to the young man who wishes to live his life in supported unemployment!
And the aristocracy scandal of the day involves the brother of famous Lily Langtry. His wife has been canoodling with Lord Grantley, a very close and personal friend who has now extended his personal friendship to the wife!
All this and more in today’s episode of Vintage Voice from 1899.
Hosted by Robin Coles.
