days 2 and 3 in boston!
day 2: walked the entire freedom trail starting in boston common and ended in bunker hill
day 3: revisiting north end and then biking! stopped by south boston too!

reflection:
honestly, 1 day is enough in boston to quickly get a feel for the city and see some sights if you want to check it off the list... but it may draw you further in! of course, it's not for everyone, but a city full of history with an amazing atmosphere boosted by renowned universities and sports teams has grabbed a hold of my attention. There is so much to appreciate in this city, from a casual stroll along the charles river, to people watching in boston common. Really, take your time and walk around. but if you asked me 6 years ago in 2018, i would've said boston was nothing special haha. i remember clearly i had just visited new york, and when i got to boston, it felt underwhelming. it definitely isn't as busy as new york, and the layout of the city felt strange. there was no longer an organized grid system with numbered streets. how was i supposed to know which direction state street was? it's easy to know 50th street is north of 40th street in new york... but i've now grown to appreciate the peace that comes with a less busy city. not to mention the europe bias i've picked up. having such a walkable city isn't so common in the US.
anyways, i took these extra days to visit some new locations as well as revisit some old ones. try some good eats! though i originally had a plan to try to attend a lecture at MIT, it didn't work out so well. The universities there haven't started the fall semester yet, so i was a few days too early. though i did get to walk into some buildings and even some classrooms. what a side quest! something just feels different about walking into academic buildings. even at my home university, sometimes i will explore buildings i don't have class in. so many classrooms and areas sit empty, and it can be fun to have a whole room and whiteboard to yourself for studying.
it's been refreshing solo-traveling again and having the freedom to just wander around with no real objective. through just wandering, i've discovered some nice places, foods, things to do, etc.
only 4 days in boston total for this trip, so it's almost over. boston has not let me down!
