Nepal is missing out on creating a generation of capable knowledge workers due to the lack of public libraries. In New York City alone, there are 219 public libraries serving a population of over 8 million, offering a vast array of resources, community programs, and learning opportunities. In contrast, Kathmandu, with a population comparable to NYC, barely has many resourceful public libraries.

Public libraries are not just repositories of books; they are community hubs that foster lifelong learning, provide access to digital resources, and support educational and professional development. The limited number of libraries in Kathmandu means that many Nepalis, especially those from underserved communities, lack the necessary infrastructure to enhance their skills, pursue self-directed learning, or engage in research and innovation.

In this video, we're taking you on a tour of the newly renovated New York Public Library on 5th Avenue, showcasing how the city provides vital resources to thousands of people every day. We'll also explore why it's crucial for cities in Nepal to develop similar systems to support our communities.
