On the Indore water contamination issue, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh strongly criticised the Madhya Pradesh government, questioning its claims of good governance. He pointed out that Indore has repeatedly won the Swachhta award and is projected as India’s cleanest city, yet several people have reportedly died in recent days after consuming contaminated water. Ramesh said the contradiction exposes serious administrative failures. He accused ministers of refusing to accept responsibility and instead targeting journalists raising the issue. Emphasising accountability, he said elected representatives cannot evade blame in such tragedies. Ramesh further warned that pollution is becoming deadly, stressing that along with air pollution, water pollution is a grave and widespread problem affecting states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, posing a major public health challenge across the country.
