A Texas native, Jessica Simpson began her career in gospel music and in her teenage years, signed to Columbia Records. She released her first album at the peak of the teen pop era during the late '90's. She was marketed as a contrast to Britney Spears due to her more innocent image and powerful singing voice. Simpson went on to release three more pop albums, two Christmas albums and a country album as well as run a successful business.

Released in 2006, A Public Affair was her first effort following her divorce from Nick Lachey. The album peaked at #5 in the US and three singles were released.

Released as the lead single from the album, A Public Affair peaked at #14 in the US and within the top ten in Canada and Ireland.
