Secret Agent (1943) is the last of seventeen animated Technicolor short films based upon the DC Comics character Superman. Produced by Famous Studios and released on July 30, 1943, the plot follows Clark Kent as he stops at a drug store to discuss his assignment. A car chase ensues outside, leading to a series of events where Clark is captured by gangsters trying to retrieve records from a secret agent. The agent, who looks identical to Lois Lane but with blonde hair, has tricked the gang into thinking she was part of them and has records of their names and plans. The gangsters plan to stop her at the bridge to the airport, leading to a gunfight and a thrilling chase. Clark breaks free, changes into Superman, and saves the agent from a falling electrical tower. He flies her to Washington D.C., saluting the flag as he leaves. The cartoon is notable for being the only short in the series where Lois Lane doesn't appear.
