Back in 2001, Celtic proved too strong for United in Ryan Giggs’ testimonial at Old Trafford, edging a lively contest 4–3. Sutton, Lennon and Lambert were on target for the Hoops, while van Nistelrooy and Verón struck for United. Even a cameo from Eric Cantona couldn’t change the outcome — though the night is remembered just as much for Chris Sutton’s cheeky pat on David Beckham’s face as for the goals.
