We go searching for bison on the Wildlife loop in Custer State Park South Dakota with our kids, in the beautiful Black Hills! Custer State Park is home to one of the largest herds of American Bison in the United States. I gave my family a 5 AM wake up call and we hit Custard State Park's Wildlife Loop. The Wildlife Loop is an 18 mile road that travels through grasslands and forests, home to so much wildlife like...bison, whitetail deer, mule deer, antelope, mountain goats, elk, coyotes, burros, bighorn sheep, birds, wild turkeys, prairie dogs and eagles.
About 3 months prior to this trip, we traveled to Elk County, Pennsylvania in search of their herd of elk. We arrived in Elk County during the midday sun, so there was no herd to be seen. Will leaving earlier increase our chances of spotting wildlife? and Where to find bison? Stick around to find out!
