Jeep Flees At Speeds 100 miles per hour Trying To Avoid Pitmaneuver By Arkansas State Police

February 21, 2024, at approximately 2:56 P.M., I, Trooper First Class Tanner Hess with the Arkansas State Police, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 40 near mile marker 1. I observed a white Jeep traveling eastbound in front of me at a high rate of speed. As I was trying to catch up, the operator of the Jeep passed eastbound traffic while using the right shoulder. I initiated the patrol car’s emergency lights and siren, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The suspect fled at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, passed on the shoulder, and Corporal Deston Linkous, with the Arkansas State Police, became the primary pursuing Trooper west of Exit 5 on Interstate 40 eastbound. The suspect continued fleeing at a high rate of speed, and Corporal Linkous attempted to position his patrol vehicle for a Tactical Vehicle Intervention to stop the fleeing suspect. The suspect steered and operated the Jeep as if he was attempting to obstruct Corporal Linkous from conducting a Tactical Vehicle Intervention. I became the primary pursuing Trooper again near mile marker 8, and I attempted to position the patrol car for a Tactical Vehicle Intervention. The suspect came to a stop, without me conducting a Tactical Vehicle Intervention, and he was taken into custody. The suspect was identified as DONALD TREY WALKER, JR 10/5/1997, and he was transported to the Crawford County Detention Center for the following: fleeing – vehicle or conveyance – substantial danger of death, a class D felony, and reckless
driving.
