This lecture deals with the fundamentals of basic electronics. Thermionic emission can be enhanced by increasing the strength of the battery and voltage, by creating vacuum and by increasing temperature. Whereas, Cathode rays are considered as negatively charged because these are produced from cathode and travel towards anode, these rays are deflected towards the positive pole of the electric field and these rays are repelled by the negative pole of the electric field.

The chapter also clarifies the concept of Electrons. When a moving electron enters a magnetic field, it is deflected from its straight line path. The strength of magnetic field and speed of electrons enhance their deflection. Analogue Electronics are those quantities, whose value increase or decrease continuously with time or remains constant are called analogue quantities. The branch of electronics, which processes such quantities, is known as analogue electronics.

Analogue Devices are Refrigerators, Electric Fans, Electric Iron, Electric Lamps, Radio Receiver. Digital electronics are that branch of electronics which processes the data being provided in the form of digits is known as digital electronics. It is being used in modern electronic devices. Digital Devices are Computer, TV, Digital Camera, Mobile Phone, Security System.
