A Plea for Our Future - Pre-Action Interview

On July 18, 2024, John Mark Rozendaal, a 63-year-old grandfather, professional cellist, and former Princeton professor, was targeted by Citibank’s security team and subjected to an unconstitutional restraining order aimed at preventing him from peacefully protesting Citi’s fossil fuel funding at the bank’s headquarters.

Despite the risks, Mr. Rozendaal returned to Citi’s headquarters on August 8, 2024, to play J.S. Bach’s Suites for Cello. He was apprehended and now faces charges, with penalties that could lead to up to seven years in prison.

Meanwhile, Citi executives face no consequences for financing the fossil fuel industry, which is contributing to climate breakdown.

The night before the cello action, Josh Fox, an American film director, playwright, and environmental activist, interviewed Mr. Rozendaal to discuss his passion and the risks he’s willing to take for a livable planet.
