Algo Trading: 'Transparency & Disclosure' High On Priority, Why SEBI Sounded Alarm Bells

Sebi Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch says the market regulator is neither in favour of nor against algorithm trading. However, Buch also emphasised that transparency cannot be compromised and opaque business models will face the heat. Earlier, Sebi had come up with a circular to stop brokers from promising high returns and also to check unregulated platforms. Theoretically, this black-box or algo trading can help traders generate high profits at lighting fast speeds, and that's where the problem lies.
