Time For a Police Car to Catch a Speeder | Kinematic Equations | Motion | Physics

Описание к видео Time For a Police Car to Catch a Speeder | Kinematic Equations | Motion | Physics

A police car accelerates from rest to chase down a speeder traveling at constant velocity. Using the kinematic equations we will derive an equation for when the police car will catch the speeder.

This problem, which commonly comes up in introductory college physics as well as AP Physics looks at the motion of two objects and determines when they will meet.

To aid understanding we will graph the position vs time of the vehicles in order to determine when they meet.

We will also see that when the vehicles are traveling the same velocity, they do not meet. This is an important misconception in understanding the motion of these two vehicles.
