In a heartbreaking incident from Punjab, the world’s oldest marathon runner, Fauja Singh, aged 114, tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run accident on the Jalandhar-Pathankot Highway.

Known globally as the "Turbaned Tornado", Fauja Singh was crossing the road near his village Beas Pind when a speeding Toyota Fortuner SUV struck him and fled the scene. Despite immediate medical attention, Singh succumbed to his injuries that night.

Punjab Police acted swiftly — collecting CCTV footage and vehicle debris to identify the car and its driver. Within just 30 hours, they arrested 26-year-old NRI Amritpal Singh Dhillon, a Canada-based resident who had returned to India on vacation.

Fauja Singh inspired millions around the world. He started running at the age of 89 after losing his wife and son, completed the Toronto Marathon at 100, carried the Olympic torch in 2012, and retired in 2013. He lived by the belief:
“The body runs on willpower, not age.”
