Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z fold 2 in their initial unpacked event last month.
and Microsoft wasn’t far behind, Launching the Surface Duo just a few days later. The Galaxy unpacked 2.0 event on september 1st focused only on their new flagship product.
Starts off at $ 1999, you can pre-order now and it ships out September 18th.
It comes in 2 colours the mystic black and mystic bronze. you then have Custom Hinge options with 4 colour combos to make the phone your own.
Of course the first thing that comes to mind is - Have they improved on the MANY flaws of the first version?
Don’t get me wrong, the Galaxy Z fold should us what foldable could be like.
If you remember , the Z fold initially had what i call ‘screen gate’ where the protective layer could accidentally be peeled off and that would render the phone unusable.
Samsung fixed this problem before their re launch late last year . but the Cover display was much smaller than anticipated and that meant you were mostly using the phone in tablet mode.
The first version of the screen was also very sensitive and could easily be damaged.
It also had an issue of dust getting into the hinge. you could never get that out! this would result in the hinge producing a grinding noise every time you opened or closed the phone.
THE ZFOLD 2 has fixed all those problems!!
the first noticeable difference is the full screen AMOLED cover display that is 6.2 inches diagonally with very thin bezels.
This means you can perform most functions without having to open the phone.
Inside you get a beautiful 7.6 inch AMOLED Display which houses a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate. the phone automatically adjusts the Refresh rate as per the usage requirements between 11 and 120 Hz.

The interior screen has been upgraded as well. Most importantly, it now uses Samsung’s Ultra Thin Glass (UTG), just as the Z Flip did. It appears to be much more durable than the plastic screen from the original Fold. Samsung is also preinstalling a plastic screen protector over the screen.

the other noticeable upgrade is that the camera notch is gone, replaced by an Infinity o display.

The hinge - Samsung has increased the rigidity of the hinge and introduced flex mode. you can now use the Z FOLD 2 with multiple viewing angles.

They’ve also installed tiny brushes in the hinge that keep dust and debris out.

Samsung has worked on seamless screen to screen transition
which lets you carry on your work to full screen mode and back to the cover display without any lag.

Tech specs the Z fold 2 is a Powerhouse It has a Snapdragon 865 Plus processor, 256GB of storage, and 12GB of RAM. It supports wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, fast charging, and has a 4,500mAh battery.

The finger print sensor on the side allows you to unlock your phone easily.

It also has nice stereo speakers on both sides of the phone.

lets talk about the CAMERA!!!
Samsung is calling them the pro grade camera
there’s 5 cameras overall. 10mp lens in the cover display
10 mp sense in the main display
and 3 12mp lenses in the main camera on the back
ultrawide , wide n telephoto lense.

Now lets discuss Microsoft Surface DUO in comparison with the Z fold 2.

The Surface DUO starts off at $1499. it comes in 1 colour which they call the Glacier. You can pre order it now and it ships out on September 10th.

Microsofts first attempt at the foldable comes with a unique twist
rather than a foldable display it has 2 5.6 inch individual screens connected by a 360 degree hinge. which brings the Total Screen size to 8.1 inch - AMOLED display with 400 pixels per inch and a single is 5.6 inch AMOLED
the hinge looks rigid and can be fixed at any point so you have many viewing options.unlike the Galaxy z fold 2 the surface uses gorilla glass on its displays.
Surface duo uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, 6GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage. LTE is available but there’s no 5G support at all.
The Surface duo has two batteries, one in each screen with an Overall capacity of 3577mAh,
The Camera is another major source of Disappointment. The Surface DUO has only 1 10 mp camera. there’s no back facing camera. if you want to take a selfie you have to flip the other screen around.
