Journalists in Talhar Launch Protest Against BISP Administration; Condemn Harassment of Senior Media Personnel

Members of the Awami Press Club Talhar staged a powerful protest today against the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) local administration. Led by the newly elected President of the Press Club, Ajiz Anwar Lashari, journalists gathered to demand immediate action against staff members accused of misconduct and intimidation.

I. The Incident of Harassment The protest was sparked by a recent incident involving senior journalist Ejaz Mallah. While he was covering reports of illegal deductions from the funds meant for poor and deserving women at a BISP center, the local staff allegedly:

Misbehaved and used derogatory language.

Snatched his mobile phone to prevent documentation of irregularities.

Threatened him with dire consequences for performing his professional duties.

II. United Front of the Press Club A large number of journalists participated in the protest, including Munawar Jatoi, Muhammad Zubair Sheikh, Gulab Abbasi, Sajan Mallah, Sikandar Solangi, Syed Muzaffar Shah, Ramzan Mallah, Zahid Khoso, and Rehan Memon. The protesters chanted slogans against the BISP Talhar staff, stating that any ill-treatment of journalists is an attack on the freedom of the press and will not be tolerated.

III. Demands for Accountability President Ajiz Anwar Lashari addressed the crowd, emphasizing that journalists are the eyes and ears of the public. He called upon the high-ranking officials of the Benazir Income Support Program and the District Administration to take immediate notice of the Talhar staff's "mafia-like" behavior and ensure that the snatched property is returned and the offenders are punished.
